Creating Trauma-Informed Classrooms

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 12:00 PM until 1:00 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

Join us on Wednesday, May 18 at 12:00 p.m. (EDT) as The School of Nursing presents the second in a series of Diversity Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging workshops for nursing and other interested faculty, "Creating Trauma-Informed Classrooms."

Most of our students have a history of psychological trauma predisposing them to a heightened stress response. The body's stress response is designed for survival and inhibits activities that are not essential. Learning is an activity that is not physiologically essential to survival.

This virtual presentation will provide attendees with strategies to help mitigate stress and maximize learning.

    Key Learning Objectives:

    • Define trauma and its impact on cognition and learning
    • Describe 2-3 basic interventions that minimize the impact of trauma in a learning environment
    • Identify signs that a student needs psychological intervention
